We focus on fundamental research and application development of Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Network. Fundamental research issues include transmission, routing, and coverage. Developments of application systems include location tracking and fire emergency guiding. Important results are listed as follows:

  • Coverage and Connectivity Problem:We define and propose efficient solutions to the coverage and connectivity problem of WSNs (published in ACM Trans. on Sensor Networks)
  • Bluetooth-based Visitor sensor System: A blue-tooth based visitor system integrated with sensor networks and instant messages (published IEEE JSAC)
  • Efficient in-network moving object tracking:Based on a tree structure integrated with data-aggregation and in-network data processing (published in IEEE Trans. on Mobile Computing and Int'l Journal of Sensor Networks)
  • Emergency guiding system: A WSN based emergency guiding system (published in IEEE Computer and Int'l Journal of Sensor Networks)
  • iMouse: A mobile sensing and surveillance system (published in IEEE Computer)
  • iPower: WSN applies in power saving (published Int'l Journal of Sensor Networks))
  • GeoAds: A music streaming service integrate with WSN localization (published in IEEE Int'l Conf. on Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Systems, 2007)









Sub-project 4 focuses on the areas of wireless ad hoc and sensor networking. We expect to develop key technologies for mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) and wireless sensor networks (WSN), and integrate these results under a core all-IP network. Below we list important results in the B3G core network.

  • Wire1X: A FREE supplicant of 802.1X. It provides various authentication types and several encryption algorithms. It complies IEEE 802.1X, 802.11i, WPA, WPA2, etc. (IEEE Communications Magazine)
  • Network Mobility (NEMO) with Fast Mobile IP Support for Integrated WiMAX-WLAN Wireless Networks: mechanisms to support network mobility (NEMO) with fast mobile IP (FMIP) capability over next generation heterogeneous all-IP 4G systems
  • Mobility Supports using Mobile SCTP: A vertical handoff architecture to support mobility among heterogeneous access networks
